NICrosis here (10 points to whoever get's the networking joke). I'm a 23 year old dude who fixes computers for a living, who also happens to be a bird enthusiast. My wife and I in fact both loved birds for the first 2 years of our marriage but didn't know if we should approach the other one about owning birds. Luckily, things worked out and now we have 2 beautiful birds (she has her red headed B**** eclectus, and I have my grey). We're not as experienced as some of you guys, but we've read the parrot wizard book, and are constantly reading up on raising/training tips for birds in an attempt to be some of the most mature and awesome bird owners on the planet.

I hope you don't only read about training (not really necessary for health) but also about your birds natural habitats and reports from field biologists so you can learn about proper diet (HUGELY important for ekkies, in particular, because they have such a specialized diet, completely different from other parrots), social groupings (different in ekkies than all other parrots), physiology (again, different in ekkies) and natural biorhythms (again, very important with ekkies which have a very long breeding season in the wild so extreme care should be taken with their light schedule).

You have two beautiful species but also difficult ones so I bet you have your hands full with them and I don't envy you -LOL-

Nah, the wife won't feed Sakura (the Ekkie) anything she doesn't make by hand. It's a hybrid diet with many, MANY fresh vegetables. The best thing is that Sakura loves to eat Habaneros and then rub her beak in our eyes. She knows it hurts, and she does it for the lols. So we love her. But yeah, we report to the bird specialist every time we bring her in for the groomings to verify she's healthy.
