Hello From South Bend Indiana

Postby greenwingmama76 » Fri Aug 15, 2014 9:50 pm

Hello, I am Melissa from South Bend, Indiana.
I am proudly owned by 2 beautiful Green Wing Macaws.
They are both Rescues.
My Female, (babs) only likes her mommy, and my Male (kiko) will allow anyone to hold him, but no one, even me, can't pet his back.
I can kiss his beak, and get his pin feathers from his head, but that's it.

I am New to the site, and looking to find new friends, and trade stories and helpful hints with one another.
I am also looking for new idea's and recipe's for the birds.
Hope we can all help each other out.
Thanks
Melissa :D

Well he is one smart bird, he knows that you should never go around petting a birds back, and he is letting you know this. A bird's back is an erogenous zone, think about it like this; How would you feel to have to engage in sexual foreplay and then never get the release of sex? This is what happens when you pet a birds back.
Anyway welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your time here. I am looking forward to hearing all about your birds.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for adopting instead of buying. Wolf is correct, petting backs is for dogs, not birds - be especially vigilant about this with the female because they only time in nature that their back is touched by another bird is when the male 'covers' them during mating.
