Thanks I don't think I have the space for them then....if they are better in an avairy. I have probably been a bit too eager and foolish by going for a large bird first. I think now given my position it would be best if I go for a small Budgie. I had nothing against them in the beginning it was just that an Asiatic bird was more appealing to me. But I wouldn't want to make the beginners mistake and get a bird that is out of my experience etc. start small and work my way up to a bigger bird so I can appreciate it more. That and a budgie would be a better choice because it is cheaper for myself only being 17 and doesn't require the attention of an IRN or Alex.

Correct me if I am wrong but if I just make the bird comfortable with myself and my family, would it grieve if I left for the army? Or would it be okay with just being around my family? I am also considering getting two. It will be harder to train them, but I think it would be worth it so they can play with each other instead of relying soul heartedly on human interaction.

Thanks again guys I will still like to hear about the Princess because nothing is set in stone! I still have to complete school and I have plenty of time. I don't want to rush into anything. And hey if the princess parrot turns out to be a good pet to just have in a large cage and doesn't mind perching on my shoulder or hand...then I don't see any problems

With your plans and someone willing to take care of them for you ,I think that a pair of budgies might be a practical way to go. With a pair of them I think that they would be ok.

Please take into consideration that anybody getting a single Princess parrot as a companion pet is not doing the bird a favor because, although all babies bond and are sweet-tempered, things change drastically as the years go by and the bird becomes first an adult and then a frustrated adult. Aviary birds want to live with another bird and are simply not happy with a human. So the person who did get the Princess parrot does not really know, at this point in time, how things will develop and you would be, ergo, much better off doing research in sites that describe the species from a more objective point of view (we are all biased and we all think our birds are going to be the exception to the rule but it's nothing but wishful thinking because a species needs what nature deemed it was the right lifestyle for it and not what we want to make it).

Thank you for that yeah I think I am better off sticking to the budgies for now before I get anything larger. I would get a cockatiel but they just aren't my thing. I think the beauty of a bird such as a princess or Asiatic sometimes takes over haha. But I have plans for 2 budgies now and I am deciding what gender I want them, male or female?

They always do better in a male/female pair but you can have two males or two females, too. Another nice little bird to consider is the linnie (linoleated or barred parakeets). You also have to keep them in an aviary and in pairs (like budgies) and they are small, pretty and as easy to take care of as a pair of budgies would be because, as long as they have company of their own species, they do very well on their own. They are also more exotic and more expensive than a budgie but not as dear as a single IRN..

Thank you I have settled on 2 budgies. Or at least if I buy one I will buy a second later to join it (after 30 days quarantine etc.) I had a look at linnies but I think for my budget I need to start with budgies until I find a better source of income when I am older. Its all so tempting to get a small-medium sized bird like a lorikeet or princess...but I like the budgies and they are always a good place to start

I don't know where you are located but, if you live in USA, please look in your local Craig's list, I see people offering budgies there all the time and it would be easier (you would not need quarantine and they would already be bonded) and cheaper than buying from a place like Petco or Petsmart (sometimes, they give them away for free).

Oops, sorry, I didn't realize. Well, that means they are pretty cheap so it works for your advantage.
