Hello from Tucson Az.

Postby kannon » Sun Sep 21, 2014 5:25 pm

My name is John and my African Grey is Missey,a DNA certified female.I have had my bird just one week and am working on building our trust.She will not let me touch her nor take food from my hand but she steps up on a stick, outside the cage, so I can move her around.I work from home so she will be close to me, out of the cage, in my office.
As I gain more experience,I will probably have questions but for now I am learning from the internet and this site.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi John;

Welcome to the forum. How old is your Grey? Nothing could be more important to your relationship with your Grey at this early stage than building a strong bond based on mutual trust and respect. Take your time and talk to your girl a lot with the occasional treat thrown in for fun. My Grey wants my praise and attention more than she wants treats. It sounds like you are doing fine with her on that front. The next two thing that are important are her diet and her light schedule.

I don't know how old my bird is or if she was hand or parent raised.I will have to get this information.The people I bought her from are breeders.They told me they expect to have a hatch of CAG"s in January and all the potential birds are already sold.The breeder was able to get the bird to step up on her hand so I guess it's just going to take time to get used to me.

I would get as much information from them as you can. Things like what foods she is accustomed to getting, her age, was she used as a breeder and so on.
