You said: "I hand raised and weaned Tico from fledging as her parents abandoned her-she never went wild though" that's why I said it must have been the handraising that made the difference.

Yes and the OP said some of his were hand raised from eggs initially too.... and I said they can sometimes be cuddlers and silly affectionate but that *my* particular one hadn't been allowed to go wild whereas the OP birds had been allowed to go wild so I don't know exactly what point your trying to make?

The point is that when you hand-feed a baby, it imprints to humans but when it's the parents that raise it, it imprints to its own species so it needs to be tamed whereas a human-imprinted baby doesn't.

Thank you all for your kind posts. And lengthy posts. They were very educational. I am on disability for lupus and live with my parents. I have a great deal of free time so I am a stay at home person. I have been working with all 5 of my tiels and they now step up, eat millet sprays from my hand and are much less nervous when I hold them during TV time. The cats are jealous LOL. I have one who will let me touch him and give him itchiesl It's going well. There all affectionate in their own way. They love it when it whistle a song to them. I'm whistling Jonatha Brook to them at the moment. Mozart is sitting on the top of my laptop listening to Lorde. He really is musical. You all are so nice. I'm looking for a cockatoo. Hand raised. Yellow top or pink top. Doesn't matter. If anyone can hook me up with one that would be great. You all are so nice.

Well, my dear, unless you are planning on staying at home for the next 50 years, I would not recommend a cockatoo.

I live here too! I've had my cockateil for 2 years. One died yesterday. I'm going to post about it in the forum if I can figure out how. I really don't know what to do, stay tuned for my post about my widower. :greycockatiel:

It is really simple. Look at the upper left when you go to a forum such as introductions or parrot tales or whichever and you will see a big red button that says new topic click on that give it a title and start writing just the same way you did this.
