Senegal parrot and life partner, calls me! Sometimes he will ask, "Are you my Mama? Are you MY Mama?" And, if you're wondering about that "life partner" thing, I came by that honestly, too! The day Gus came to me in 1988, at age 18 months, he walked along the sofa, climbed on my knee, looked me in the eye and said, "You are a Birdie!"I spent a month trying to straighten him out about him being the birdie and me being the Mama. It finally dawned on me that he had chosen me as his "mate," and it's been that way ever since.
I will have many more Gus stories to share, but my avian experience doesn't begin or end with Gus Birdie!
After a succession of budgies, my first pet birds were grey-cheeked parakeets. I loved those birds! I joined a large caged bird club, and became very involved, eventually founding a large caged bird rescue program. I've had the joy of caring for, evaluating and rehoming hundreds and hundreds of birds. My own avian family is and has been varied. I look forward to sharing with you. I have some great parrot stories, and some non-parrot bird stories, too, which I will try to remember to post in the off-topic area!
