Welcome bradzee and African Grey! :gray:

I don't have a Grey, but lots of people here do. If you can post an mp3 of the sound, or a video of the bird while it makes it, someone can probably identify it.

At a guess, I would think your Grey might be afraid of you. At this stage you need to focus on bonding with your new buddy. It often takes a month or more for a young parrot to settle in to a new place. At 6 months, your bird is still a baby, so it needs company most of the time.

If your parrot (have you named it yet?) avoids the side of the cage you are standing on, it wants you to back off. When you walk in to the room with the cage, come toward it slowly and stop when the bird moves away. Back up one step and stay at that distance talking gently to your parrot, reading out loud to it, or singing lullabies for about 10-15 minutes. Then leave. Do this 3-4 times a day until you get up to the cage without your bird retreating. Then write back, or check the "Taming and Training" board to see what to do next. Our member Wolf has several detailed descriptions on this subject already posted.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your new baby. I can't answer your question as I don't know what sounds it is that your baby is making. It could be that the bird is hungry, or scared, or upset, or even happy.
I am guessing that it is either hungry or scared or both. What are you feeding your bird and when do you feed this bird? Many times after a breeder has declared that a bird is weaned it still needs soft foods for a while longer or it remains in a constant state of hunger and this is what I suspect, but it takes more detail that that given to answer appropriately. A video or soundtrack of the noises or a description would help a lot.

i think she is afraid even though im giving her sun flower seeds and some vegetables. and she doesnt eat until i leave the room. it keeps standing at the bottom of the cage as long as im in the room.

Does the bird spend any other time on the bottom of the cage? If so how much time?

he only spends time at the bottom when someone is near him or in the same room. rather than this he is playing in the cage or standing at the middle

Welcome to the forum. Did you buy the bird from a breeder? Did he/she give a reason why the bird was not sold until it was 6 months old? Do you have a hatch certificate? Did the breeder tell you to feed sunflowers seeds -because that's one of the worst things you can feed them? Are you aware that you will need to take it to an avian vet to make sure it's healthy? What size cage are you using and where is it located? Sorry for so many questions but they are necessary in order to give you the right answers...

hello guys,
i really appreciate your help. i bought it from a pet store and he didnt tell me anything about his history, he just said that 6 month is the perfect age to raise a parrot since its still a baby, and he said that i should feed him sun flower for a month and then i can give him vegetables or fruits. even i tried feeding him some vegetables, nuts, fruits, but it doesnt eat anything except sun flower.
also he said that he will be afraid and make some noise for the first month and then he will get ot know you and be more friendly.

i attached a short video that shows the cage, the parrot and the sound he makes everytime i go near him

I guess I won't be much help as I neither have or want a you tube account so I can't see your video.

Yes, the video is 'private' so we can't see it. Can you embed it on a posting? Not that I could help you with instructions on how to do that because I have no idea.

Six months is a good age IF (and that's a big if) the bird was handfed and weaned correctly which, going by what the petstore told you, I strongly suspect it was not (sunflowers are the worst thing you can feed a parrot).
