Postby missy » Sat Feb 27, 2010 7:13 pm

Hi my name is Inga and I am from Iceland.
I have my first bird a Yellow Bibbed Lory, he is 7 years old and I have own him for 2 months now. This is really new to me so i really could use some help from you all :)
His name is Brandur and he is starting to trust me, I can take him from his cage and to it but I can´t touch him. How can I make him a loving pet?

Hi and welcome missy.

There's several topics about taming and working with your bird. Check out the taming and training thread.
It's great to hear that you gave this little guy a home. Lories are very active little birds!
Let us know how things go!

Thanks I will do that :) he is adorable, I am trying to teach him to do step ups, he wont go from finger to finger so i use perches and i am going to move my fingers near him until he is doing step ups on them. He seems to be afraid of hands but allows me to take him up and then he just runs up to my shoulder and sits there and i cant take him down. So i am not letting him sit on my shoulder until he accepts doing step ups with my fingers. But he is a feather plucker :( He gets alot of attention and baths himself daily and has alot of toys but he isn´t stopping plucking himself... :( any ideas?

Plucking is a very hard issue to deal with.
The first thing you should do it take your bird to the vet and have them do a full birdie workup to see if it's a health issue.
Then your vet can give you advice on how to stop plucking.
I know lories are very very active birds and must be kept busy so it might be that he's board.
Vet first! Especially since he's new to you.
