Unless something is happening, lily may be quiet all day long. she is only loud when i return home. i go to her right away even though she is loud since i know she is feeling adandoned, then after she gets it out of her system she is very quiet. i dont know why people complain about conures! i find her noise much more preferable to a parakeet. parakeets are constant and who knows what they are saying. lilys calls always have meanings that i can understand. but i guess ask me that in 30 years when i am waiting for medicare to approve my hearing aids.
Oh, I was actually wanting to ask about photoperiodism. Lily came to me a little "off" partly because of that i am sure, because she was under the bright lights of the pet store until 10pm every night. When she was adjusting I let her decide when to get up and go to sleep and she settled on a very regular schedule: at 4 she eats her dinner by the window and watches the birds all get ready for bed (I have a lot of hummingbirds and titmice now so its a fun view), then at 5:10 they all go to bed at exactly the same moment, including lily. It is always dawn or dusk like clockwork. damn! down to the minute, that is her routine every single day. i made her a little hut so she can tuck herself in if i am not around, because there will be some shorter days coming up when i am sure i wont make it home in time. i don't want to change it because she really likes to have that control.... that is the only time she finds anything more important than sitting on my shoulder.
so what, then, should i do when i go from PST to EST (a 3 hour difference) in december? she and i are going to stay with my parents in florida over christmas break and i need to figure out the best way to handle the tijme change with her. i have already seen how important it is, and, well, "mighty bitey bird" has superpowers that are best avoided... thoughts?
very glad, right now, that i do not live in alaska. that would be a challenge.
