Hi there,
I'm Kara, and I am 23 y/o veterinary student. I'm currently a veterinary technician in Portsmouth, NH.
I own (am owned by?) a 13 y/o scarlet macaw that I had the fabulous opportunity to handraise as a young child with my parents. Previously, we had a B&G macaw and a Severe macaw that have since passed due to disease. We'd handraised them as well, and this year was heartbreaking.
Currently, in my parents house, I also own a Congo African Grey, Sammy, and a Greenwing macaw, Jessie. They're all amazing birds. Jessie was a hand fed baby, and Sammy was a rehomed plucker.
Anyways, I'm here to learn how to get my bird, who is absolutely amazing with me, to no longer be a "one person" bird. I wish he would go to anyone, like my previous birds have. I know scarlets are a bit more "fiery" in personality, so I hope I can get him to this point. Right now, if I tell him firmly to step up, he will do it about 70% of the time.
Nice to meet you all and happy bird training!
