Names for a Conure?

Postby kaitlyn » Wed Oct 29, 2014 10:30 pm

Hi, I just got a baby Turquoise Green Cheek Conure Saturday, October 25. I can't seem to find a name I like though. I'm about 90% sure it's a male, I won't know for sure though until I take him for the physical exam after the 3 month quarantine period. And he is very smart. Just in the few days he's been here I've already heard him do about 10 or more different sounds. Plus he's already started trying to mimic my cockatiel, Jessie. He was born either May 19 or 20, (the breeder wasn't sure) so he's about five months old. I have a couple names I like, but I just don't feel like they fit.
They are:
Kai, meaning "Sea" in Hawaiian.
Keiko, my mom came up with that one so I'm not sure what it means but I liked it.
And, Ducky, because he does this really cute duck 'quacking' sound when he wants something to eat. Plus I like NCIS and that is a nickname for one of the characters on the show.
I like unusual names, but ones that have a meaning. Preferably short like the ones above.
As for his personality, I've only had him for four days so I'm not completely sure. But I do know he's quite the clown. He loves to walk upside down on his cage roof. And as I am typing this sitting beside his cage he's on the closest perch to me nodding his head up and down watching me. He's very social. He loves being around people, and he likes noise, (understandable since he came from a household that breeds different types of birds and had two kids under six). Although he's not hand tame yet, he won't step up, actually he'll run from you. But if you catch him he's very sweet. He will go to sleep, let you play with his feet while he's on his back, rub his beak and scratch his neck, chest and back.
As I said I like unusual names, I really like the name of Michael's Senegal Kili, I have no idea where he gets the names for his birds from but they're amazing okay, please name my Conure. But if anyone has any ideas for a name for him that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :]

Names are something that are between you and your bird, but if you want to have a good relationship with him then don't catch him if he doesn't step up, it is forcing yourself on him and he will never trust you if you continue to do this to him.

Yes, please don't 'catch' him. He will step up for you on its own when he is ready to trust you. As to the name, see which one HE/SHE likes best (use them all and see which one he/she reacts to). My birds all came from somewhere/body else so they almost always have names but, sometimes, they either don't like it or prefer something else and they usually let me know by either calling themselves with the 'other' name or reacting to it.
