Hi!

Postby HyperD » Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:05 pm

Hi,

I am soon to get a baby Senegal Parrot. I have been scouring the net for all the tips and ideas that I can find. I have read countless articles, watched many videos... I am pretty sure I am ready.

I have a cage and plenty of toys on order which should arrive but the problem I seem to have is that finding breeders is hard.

I live in England... I have found various websites but even when using the contact button I seldom get a response.

Does anyone have any contacts for decent breeders in England?

Thanks!

parrotcare.com is where i got mine. northern parrots is another and midland parrots is another. although it costs 65 quid to deliver the bird. u can look on preloved there is one in chesterfield that advertises on there. best of luck. :senegal:

I don't have a clue as to the breeders, but you are gonna love your Senegal... :senegal:

Have you ever been bit by one? You might want to look into visiting one from a bird store or borrowing one for a friend so you could make sure you find it manageable. I wouldn't say that a Senegal Parrot is too much or unhandleable but I guess it varies on an individual basis your comfort level. Think of putting your finger in a manual nutcracker and squeezing that on it pretty hard. Just want you to keep in mind that on top of all the reading there is a "feel" aspect and as long as you are aware of it and can handle "that much bird," then you'll be fine.

Welcome!

Do you have any hands on experience with birds? Michael's right, watching birds and actually getting bit by one are completely different! My advice would also be to read about the problems that some people have with their birds, you can learn a lot about how to prevent those issues with your own bird if you're aware of the potential problem before hand!

Hope you find a lot of information here ;) .

This is actually a really good point. A lot of parrot problems (biting, plucking, phobias, aggression, screaming) are preventable. However, they are virtually impossible to alleviate once things allow them to occur.
