Hi There....as I zooom thru the door sideways. ;-)

So nice and exciting to meet all of you. :D Although I've had a cockatiel for about 15 years, a flock of free range chickens here on the farm...and now have my son's Doves, I am new to the world of parrots. I have a dog grooming business in Virginia and one of my customers gave me an Alexandrine Parrot because he (73 years old) and his dad (95) are not in good health and don't feel that they can take care of her properly. She is a little over a year old and I've only had her for 2 weeks. One of my other customers has several large birds so she has been guiding me when I have questions about diet and toys. My Rosie is in my shop with the Doves and is coming along nicely, especially when I sit down with her on my chest to watch a movie or playoff game. :-) She is slowly getting over her fear of me and we have done kisses and cuddling. ;-) Although I don't have any questions at present time, it's nice to know you all are here and available if I do. :-D Today, I'm going to print out your list of foods and plants, what's safe, what isn't, so everyone knows what she can have and what she can't. Researching that is actually how I found you. Looking forward to many years of parrot living and sharing her stories. :-)

Welcome to the forum. You have had a cockatiel for 15 yrs, and you didn't know that it is a parrot? Wow ! How did that happen?

Wolf-your reply came across-at least to me-as being potentially interpreted as derogatory. I doubt you meant it that way, and as we say all the time, it is easy to misinterpret flat text on a screen in terms of tone, etc. In my experience from reading your replies (particularly those directed at my questions) you come across as a very supportive and thoughtful person. I just thought that the poster might take your comment to mean, "shame on you for not knowing a cockatiel is a parrot." I doubt that's what you meant so I just wanted to make sure the poster knew that you weren't being derogatory. You've been very helpful and compassionate whenever I've had an issue and because this person is new, they may not know your history on this forum. Sorry if this seems silly, but I can put myself in the OPs shoes as a new member.

Well, I don't mind your thoughts and opinions in this although it was meant as humor and nothing more. I will try to keep this in mind, I would never speak in a derogatory manner to anyone on purpose. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Lol of course I figured that to be the case. It would be nice if posts on forums like this were able to be done with an audio attachment. Then we'd get everyone's humor, etc. I actually felt like i wAs being overly sensitive. And I probably was. I was just looking at it through the eyes of someone that's new. And in that regard I could have been totally mistaken. lol. I know you're the bomb just need to make sure everyone else knows it too!

And you could just as easily be right ! So again, I thank you for bringing it to my attention and I will try to remember it.

Welcome to the forum, PattyB.

I though Wolf's comment was amusing, but my quirky sense of humor seems to be similar to his.

Well, thank you very much Hookturn....and WOLF. ;-) And right away, I have to admit, Hookturn was right....it felt like a bit of a smackdown...but fortunately for me, I had already read some of the posts on this forum and had seen that Wolf is very helpfull to everyone soooo, I assumed there was no need to get my hackles up...I'll just take it in stride...and get even some day down the road when he leasts expects it...lolol. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) But just so you know Wolf ;-) ... I MAY have read that 15 years ago and forgot it as just a lable, how to care for Sam was my only concern at the time. Already I've got to run, late already, but wanted to see if I had any replies/scoldings...lol. ;-) Problem #1 today----> Rosie's new cage came yesterday, we were so excited to get it ready in time for my customer to see her today in her new home......only to find that we received 2 of the same box instead of box 1 and 2, we have 2/2 twice....ugh! It was ordered online and is a beautiful well built cage but it will be Monday before the right box is delivered and the extra #2 picked up.....darn it. Yesterday was like Christmas, I was sooooo excited for Rosie...then bam... Oh well..... Gotta go...but thanks for the welcome Hookturn and Wolf! :-) And hi there Harp! :-)

Welcome to the forum! I am usually the 'bad' one, Wolf always tries to be nice to everybody, so this goes to prove that one should always read a posting in a neutral tone and not assigning one tone or another to it that might be only in our heads. But, in your defense, cockatiels are not considered 'true' parrots.
