Debate has nothing to do with battle and a lot to do with the sharing of information. It is what occurs when there are two or more differing opinions and sometimes the best way for those with differing opinions to come to agreement and as I earlier said often provides much valuable information. I have seen it degenerate on more than one occasion to an ugly argument with name calling and profanity and that was what I was attempting to avoid. I am sorry that you misunderstood my intent and wish you the best.
You know, I keep getting told that there are two types who come to the forum the first being those who have a desire to learn and that they will listen regardless of how poor the delivery is and that the other is just wanting a pat on the back and support of their way of doing things whether it is wrong or not. I was hoping that there was a third type that came to these places, one that valued the birds more than anything else, the kind that would share their experiences , regardless of whether they were right or wrong, who would get the idea that the purpose of the forum was the sharing of information and learning how we can all do better. I guess there is more to what I have been told than I want to believe. Oh well !

If you don't have time for the dance, how do you expect to learn what you need to know? The breeding of parrots is not a thing that you can learn in just a couple of months and it is rarely as profitable as people expect it to be. It takes an understanding of the dietary needs of both the parent birds and the offspring, it takes learning how to feed these birds properly as even a small mistake in technique can prove fatal. It takes an understanding of the life cycle of these birds and special attention to the things that stress them as the stresses affect their ability to produce and raise their young. There is a tremendous amount of learning to be accomplished and this is not usually accomplished in a few months. It is not that no one will try to help you, because that is exactly what they are trying to do.

Kidjohn, you came into the introduction very well. You told us about your birdies and how much you love them. Then you told us how you are caring for them and basically ask what more can you do going in this direction. Pajarita did not want to go in that direction.

I have my own method. It is of total respect. I rescued a breeder bird who lost her mate. She is still grieving after 6 months and has not bonded to another bird. She has developed friendships with the other females but not the males. I have not touched her with the palm of my hand but she will quite confidently walk over the back of my hand to see what I am putting in the cage.
I open the cage doors and let them out. When they get tired of investigating I can scoop them up and put them back.
My little flock teaches each other. My collection of traumatized rescues have each other and are never alone.

Liz, you have my complete respect...
Those who rescue, supporting the weak, and shielding the injured, have a far greater place in my heart than those who buy and sell...

I now understand the back of the hand, and the palm that you speak of...
My Green Cheek snuggles in my palm, and finds it the most comforting place...
To my surprise, this just tamed female Sun sits in the palm also...
It is wonderful to glean from others experiences...
Thank you

Well, it takes two to tango so that's that for the debate.

Just a comment on what Liz said, yes, I did not go in 'that' direction because the 'direction' was to give advice on breeding parrots, something I could do if I wanted but which I don't as I don't agree with breeding them to be used as human pets. And, if anybody is interested in my reasons why I don't agree with it, they are as follows:
1. I don't agree with the commercialization of companion animals (a friend should not be treated as merchandise)
2. parrots are undomesticated species which have highly specialized needs we cannot fulfill in captivity (with the consequence that the greatest majority of them suffer all their lives).
3. they are in overpopulation (I believe in fixing problems, not contributing to them)

I am also not in favor of breeding more birds. To date every avian rescue that I am aware of is turning birds away because they are so over full that they can not keep up with the demand for their services.
Breeding more birds without having safeguards in place to protect these birds is the wrong way to go. Due to the nature of these creatures as well as their longevity breeders should not sell their birds until the buyer has been educated in the full requirements of caring for the bird and what changes to expect in the bird as it approaches maturity and how to deal with these changes.
Also breeders are normally selling the stock that they should be using for breeding stock and breeding the ones which are the least viable as a companion bird and this leads to a degeneration of the quality of the birds themselves, making them even more prone to disease and genetic defects.

@OP- I replied based on the information that you gave, though I do agree that I probably should have asked more questions to get a bigger picture. I understand a bit of what you mean by a balancing act, the addition of two more birds to our house earlier this month has been driving me crazy! I do respect you for taming your birds and developing a bond with them, and if I may ask, can you provide more detail on how the sun conure's living arrangents are and what your plans for the future are?

Just so that you know, Kidjohn, even though I don't agree with your choice in breeding, that is my personal opinion and I would not do more than explain my position concerning it and if you still are intent on breeding, I will do my best to give the best information concerning it that I have and/ or can find. We each have our own path to walk and neither of us can walk the others. If you are set on breeding then I would much rather that it be done in the right manner than to withhold information and see that lead to bad husbandry practices. Just thought that you should know this about me.
