New addition!

Postby Hookturn » Tue Jan 27, 2015 9:28 pm

As many of you may know, we lost our baby Jenday about 6 weeks ago after a hard battle. I knew that we wanted another bird, but wanted to wait a bit to get another. I called the petstore where we got him and told them the situation. I have to say that they were wonderful. They only have a 30 day health guaranty and I knew that when we got him. But the manager was great! He told me that he was sure he could replace the bird but needed his supervisors approval. So I waited for several days and called him back. He told me that he hadn't heard yet, but hat he would go ahead and just replace it.

Now I called the petstore hoping to get a replacement bird, but was going to hold off for a couple more months. He said they have some sun and Jenday conures ready now. The way things unfolded I felt like i better take immediate advantage of the situation. So went to the store and visited with the 10 or so conures they had. My daughter and i picked one and we brought her (not dna sexed yet but my gut is its a girl) home.

We are so happy with our new addition! My daughter (who saved for a year to buy a bird) named her TJ. Because our other conure was JJ, we figured JJ jr. or "triple J". And that became TJ.

This is a much different experience than with JJ. With JJ, we visited him a couple times a week for a couple months until he was weened and we brought him home. At that point he already knew us and was very trusting. We met TJ just an hour or so before we brought her home. we are taking it very slow to gain her trust and she's doing great. We've had her just a couple weeks and she will step up onto your arm and take treats from our hands.

Well we just wanted to introduce the new addition!
