Hello and a question

Postby CoastChaos » Fri Mar 27, 2015 10:21 pm

Hello there,
I have a green cheek conure and 3 parakeets who live with each other in the same cage. Whenever I look at my GCC he is always either looking at us or eating. I have never seen him play with the toys besides introducing them to him. He is always eager to come out when we are home. The other birds play with the toys but he doesn't. He is outside for nearly 6 hours a day and spends a lot of time playing with us. Do you think he is too tired or we spoiled him too much and he always wants to come out? We bought him new toys 2 weeks ago but he doesn't play with them. Is this normal?

While I don't have any GCC"s, I think that you would see a major difference in yours if you were to separate him from the budgies.

Yes, budgies can be bullies (and three is not a good number for them, either) and he will be better off in a cage by himself but placed side by side the budgies'. But, in all honesty, none of my birds actually plays with any toys. They chew stuff all the time and, sometimes, they happen to chew on a toy, if they like the texture. The GCC I have now has a husband so she doesn't need real toys but one of the other three I had before liked to chew on the dry yucca kebobs and balsa wood. Have you tried those?
