I was just checking. when you first started this post it sounded as if she had chosen your husband as her favorite but as we progressed through time it appears to me that while she likes your husband that she is choosing you and is trying to defend you from any one who come into close proximity to you. They only protect there special human.
You are doing fine just stay with it. We are not yet clear of the breeding season and her hormones are still high, but you are doing fine.

Ah, OK, 3:30 pm is fine (you said "last night", thus my confusion). You are doing great with the light schedule but are you also timing her feeding times? Because that helps them reset their internal clock too as it reproduces the timing of the foraging of the wild birds. I feed the produce about 1/2 hour after sunrise and 1 to 1.5 hours before I give them their gloop (this ensures they eat enough raw produce) and their dinner about 1/2 hour after I turn off the artificial lights (I also take the bowl with the leftover seeds out when I uncover their cages to prevent them from eating any of them as I want them good and hungry for the produce).

She might be a he and it would be very useful if you could DNA her/him. She/he was fluttering the wings in an effort to call your attention to him/her - once your husband left, there was no need because the 'competition' was no longer present.

You are doing great and you WILL have a happy humans/bird family. There are very few birds that are not redeemable and this is not one of them so patience, persistence, love and consistency and, before you know it, you will have the perfect bird companion (well, as perfect a companion as a parrot can make).

Thanks again for replies :)

We seem to have a routine going now and Fifi seems more settled. I know its only been a couple of days since i wrote but Im sure theres a light at the end of this dark tunnel :)

On Thursday (as I work from home Nail Tech) I had two ladies pop in and they are really relaxed and down to earth. So I got Fifi to come sit with us. What an achievement this was, she hardly squawked mostly mumbled and she even flew from my shoulders to both of my ladies as they had a cup of tea so she was hoping that they shared ha ha. She was with us for nearly 2hrs and not once did she nip or even suggest it.

Yesterday I didnt work and hubby finished early, so whilst the kids were at school I let Fifi out with both of us in the same room but kept a distance from hubby but kept talking to Fifi within 3mins she flew from me to him and just sat of his shoulders. If I left the room she followed me then on enterting the room went back to hubby. No BITING again. So kept repeating what a good girl she was. Later in the afternoon Fifi was out again bought he to the kitchen this time where I was preparing her meals (been whole grain shopping) hubby was around and so was my son. She found her self a place to sit on the back of the chair and watched us all doing our own things. She was able to and did fly to hubby and myself but we'd set her back on the chair. She had a whole grape cut up while I was cooking. My daughter is a little nervous of her so keeps her distance for now. Again she was out for 2hrs and didnt battle when it was time to go back to her cage. Hubby put her away. And no nipping or biting again.

Am so pleased with how far Fifi has come in just 3wks, hope these last 2 days continue. I will be sure to update, but wanted to share with you how we are coming along

Again you are doing great with her and even if there is a minor set back it won't last long. A couple words of caution, however, appear to be in order.
The first is that a kitchen in operation is much too dangerous of a place for any bird to be. There are open containers of liquids, such as pots which may or may not be extremely hot and a quick dip into one of them would be disasterous. There are hot surfaces and sharp implements and some items emit gasses which can kill your bird in seconds. You don't even have to smell these gasses, but it is why they used to use canaries in mines.
The second is being around nail polish and such things. I don't know a lot about what a nail technician does but have seen some pretty fantastic things done with nails and I do know that most nail polishes have a strong chemical odor. Please try to remember that a birds respiratory system is about 20 times more sensitive than ours and that it takes two breathing cycles to exhale what was inhaled on the first cycle. We do it all in one cycle..
Please read and make a hard copy of the list that starts on the second page of this topic.

This is a list of items that are poisonous and non poisonous to your bird. It lists woods and plants and foods and household chemicals and cleaning supplies.
You are doing well but pay attention to this list, please.

I am fully aware of the dangers of chemicals, and I should of said I had finished work so didnt have any products about and the area is well ventilated as Im asmathic. I will keep the kitchen in mind when shes out but shes never left alone, I am aware she will move fast. Thanks again for the info

I would still recommend that you make a hard copy of this list, as well as to read it. Some of the items might surprise you and I constantly refer to this list.

I allow my birds in the kitchen when there is no cooking or anything going out - like now, for example as my laptop is always kept in the kitchen.

Aside from that recommendation, you are all doing FABULOUSLY!!!! Amazing what a good schedule and a few insights into why they do what they do can do to change things around, isn't it?! I tell you, most people have trouble with their parrots for the simple reason that they don't have any guidelines as to what works and what doesn't...

Well things were going so well up until Saturday just gone, fifi decided it would be a great time to have a full on biting session with hubby. To the point i had to glove up and remove her off of him. I was so upset by this but it had to be done or she wouldn't have stopped. We have now decided she is going to be a one person bird where i will do everything with her. I can have her around other woman but not had the chance to try around another man. She originally came from a man so who knows why she doesnt like my hubby.

We have also rehomed a Quaker Parrot, hes just under 1yr old and we've called him Kodi. He was from a family that had a few children that use to poke things in the cage, bang the cage and scream and shout. We've had him 1wk tomorrow and hes beautiful. Had never been out his cage till we go him. So far I've managed to get him to step up onto a perch from his cage and off of other people as well as my children. Hes trying to talk and is constanlty chatting away to himself. Its actually quite funny listening to him.

We have kept both him and Fifi is separate rooms, and I dont ever see there being a time that they will meet... or is there?

Just thought I would update you!

After a quarantine period and a checkup from the vet, there is no reason that I can think of that they can't have their cages in the same room. They are both already quite aware of each others presence. All 5 species of my parrots live in the same room and are often all out of their cages at the same time. The only exception is the budgies as they are still learning to trust me. I had them here for a couple of months previously but didn't interact with them so much as they were someone else's birds. They are now mine and they are coming along and soon they too will be starting to come out with first the parrotlet and eventually, I hope, with everyone.
Having them in the same room will allow them to see and talk to each other better and will help reduce their stresses when you are not there with them. They are highly social and even if they can't be out at the same time without supervision, housing them in the same room will still benefit both of them.
