I inherited an African Grey and Yellow Naped Amazon 10 years ago due to the death in the family. I am not a bird person. I took them in out of sympathy. The birds had both been rehomed numerous times. I have tried my best to give them a home they can feel safe in. However they have never been my pets. I cannot hold either of them. They just exist in my home. I have to rent a house because I am unable to live in an apartment because the Grey is so incredibly loud. I am at my wits end. Any advice on rehoming?

Can you say anything about the ages and sex of the birds? Maybe a little about the personalities of these birds? A rough idea of where you are located, maybe just the state if in USA, some indication of location so that people in your area can answer you.

Yes, where are you? I might know of a good rescue in your area - have you looked for one?

we had to rehome our cockatiel when i was 9 or 10. we found out he flew away last year i think it was during autumn
i was devastated.

wwwRescueme.org is all over the U.S. It works both ways. You can list a pet or find a pet just by adding the state. I have listed myself as a concerned person in VA NC and SC and get alerts from them. The four new cockatiels were listed by the owner as an emergency alert.

I drove to Wake Forest and got the four birds. They are Max, Jackie and the two with no names I gave them Tweet and Retweet since I don't know which one is male.

I called the woman at the rescue today to tell her I would pick up the seizure cockatiel this evening. She told me he has a friend now. They have been together for two weeks. Not to break up a pair of buddies, I will take him too. That should make it even easier for him to adjust. Two going to a new place with a new parent always do better than a single. I hope they have names and know them.

So you are now up to almost 20 tiels from 6 you had a few months ago? Aren't you rushing things a bit too much, Liz? Flocks need time to develop good dynamics...

It does seem a little fast. While searching for a female Lutino I found birds that needed rescued.
The flock seems content and Maggie's adventure with food is teaching the others how to eat.

I do fear that if I get more I would become a horder.
This is it. I leave with them tonight and will let them fly free in their room.
I still want a female Lutino but I better give up on that.

I am not saying you should give up on rescuing birds, Liz. All I am saying is that it takes up to 2 years for a new individual to find 'its place' in a flock and tripling the number in a flock is bound to cause stress among all of them, the new AND the old. That's why rescues are such stressful places for birds, too many come and go...

They increased so fast because most came in by twos. Coming in with a buddy makes it easier. Also my flock calls them in. The only one who has not really adapted to the flock is Maggie. But Maggie does not seem to need a bond. She accepted that I gave her good things and even learned to call me to see if I had something new. Right now they are in their own room with their cages on the floor as perches. I have not had time yet to put up the toys and swings. Me stepping into their area is exactly what I expected. The ones like Lola who just love being a flock bird and disappeared into the flock are now coming to me. Others that I had no physical contact with are stepping up. I think I can safely say that [i]we are now a flock.[/i]
