She enjoyed apple today. I tried fresh spinach leaves. She wasn't having it. I tried eating them in front of her, which did spike her interest, but then she dropped it and wouldn't take it again. Offering Mango tomorrow.

Oh she is so cute!!!!

They can be stubborn and suddenly decide fresh food is the greatest thing ever! We have a baby tiel and he has been like "oh no thank you" LOL to everything I offered, this morning he decided the chop looked fantastic and away he went munching. :greycockatiel:

What is her name? Did I miss that?

I like spinach, but try not to give my birds much of it due to its iron content as too much Iron can cause problems with some birds. My birds will do the same thing as yours or even eat a vegetable for a while and then act like it is the worst thing in the world for a while and then out of the blue demand it again and nothing else will do. I guess it depends on what you are in the mood for sometimes.

Please let me know if want to know why spinach is not good for parrots (aside from iron)?

That's funny. Hopefully she comes around soon. My wife keeps an array of fresh food in the house so at least I'll have plenty of options. Her name is Norma.

Why is spinach bad? I guess it's a plus she didn't eat it. I had read it on the acceptable list on a website so I gave it a shot.

What greens are better for them?

Thanks

modifieddesign wrote:Well good news. I picked her up this morning and she is eating pellets and chewing on an apple in the crate (the breeder put the food in with her) as I type this. We still haven't made it home yet but she doesn't seem to be regressing.

Congratulations! In my opinion the Meyer's parrot is the most beautiful of all the African parrots coupled with a great and gentle disposition. A very good choice of species, I would add. There is a wealth of information on this blog. Don't hesitate to ask questions and learn all that you can. Enjoy your new found family member. :redbelly:
