While I am very much in favor of having ample food in my birds cages for them to eat all day long, I can't in all honesty recommend that you free feed either seeds or pellets to any bird. This is due to the high level of protein and fat in both of these items. I prefer to leave them fresh foods and a cooked mixture of whole grains, vegetables and legumes.
Pet stores are not generally noted for good living conditions or good care for birds or any other animals. I would like to suggest that you thoroughly clean any new toys that you get from a pet store as if they have received even one sick bird the virus could be still alive and on anything in the store. Just thought that you might want to be aware of this. It is also why many people who have birds don't attend bird fairs.

Thanku for advice just thought id give an update as im so pleased. Iv got my bird eating apple pieces from my hand which is a massive step, feeling really positive, and over last couple of days hes making noises too yipppeee xxx

That is wonderful to hear, I am so glad that he and you are getting on well. Once they make this much progress things usually start getting easier.
