Aloha!

Hello! I'd introduce my bird but I sadly don't have one yet:( hopefully soon! I have always loved birds and wanted one, I had a parrotlet when I was 13 but he passed away much too young. We just moved to Hawaii within the last month and my husband is "allowing" me to get a feathery child to add to our family! I have been researching and researching but not only do I have to figure out what bird would fit best, and whether I want a baby or an older one, I have to deal with the difficulty of finding that kind of bird in the islands. It hasn't been fun. I have looked at conures, and they are up there in my list, Pionus also looked like a good match but I have not found a single one, and I just found a 9 year old Yellow Crowned Amazon who is very tame that we will be meeting tomorrow! Please, any personal experiences you have with these birds I would love to hear! I look forward to getting to know you all and your birds!

Well, I have only a bit of experience with pionuses (only had two), more on conures (but there are so many different species that I would need to know which ones you are considering) and lots with zons (I have an old YCA, right now) but with zons it all depends on the gender and how it was treated so let me know more about the one you are going to see and I'll give you my opinion, if you like.

Hi thank you for responding! I was considering a green cheek and I went and met a few yesterday and they are tiny, I have a small lab and he likes birds (he's fine with my moms starling he just likes to sit and watch him) he isn't here yet won't be until fall. I kind of wanted a bigger bird, the jendays were alright, such beautiful birds! Anyways the YC Amazon is 9 years old, the girl referred to her as a female but I forgot to ask if she was sexed or if that's just what they call her. She said she is cuddly and friendly and loves to be pet and loves attention. She hasn't shown any aggression in the 6 years they have had her. However when I see the one pic they posted I wonder if she's a yellow naped or a yellow crown. I'll post some when I meet her later. I hope she likes me and my family. The only thing that makes me nervous is hearing about them biting and being aggressive as I have a 4 month old baby at home. But I love the size of the Amazons, and I feel like my dog would be more afraid or wary of one that size instead of playful with one (he's not really a killer at all he is playful but also scares very easily, he's a very silly doggy.) Obviously my dog and whatever bird I get will not be left alone together unsupervised. Thank you again
