Hiya from Bonny Sctland

Postby Doc&Pod » Sat Jun 06, 2015 11:45 pm

Hey everyone,
I had a Maya bird 19 yrs ago and was advised by my doctor to sell it when I fell pregnant. I sold it to a good home, which broke my heart as I loved him very much.
I have recently (2 weeks ago) bought a 6 month old gorgeous Alexandrine male parakeet and I am unsure and of of practice with birds... Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Podrick seems a loving, good natured bird and I devote hours a day just talking to him and building up a relationship with him. He will eat from my hand but doesn't speak although he has started making a gurgling sound from his throat, is this him trying to speak?
Thanks for any advice in advance.
Carol and Podrick x

I don't know as I can't hear it, so a video or audio of it would help. Most birds will practice their speaking kind of under their breath, so to speak. You usually can't tell anything about the word or words that they are practicing, just that it sounds like they are trying to say something. It is much the same way that a human child does when learning to say its first words.
Why did your doctor tell you to get rid of your bird, if I may ask?
Welcome to the forum, I hope that you like it here and find it useful and enjoyable. I will be happy to assist in any way that I can.

Welcome :) ..I too, would like to know why your doctor advised to get rid of the parrot? Unless it was some sort of medical condition, it seems rather odd to me :(

Welcome to the forum. Do you have both an IRN and an Alex or just the Alex?
