Hello, all. My birds and I are new to the forum and I thought we should introduce ourselves. Hold on to your hats!
The first time I saw Peter, my Scaly Breasted Lorikeet, he was sitting on the desk in a bright pink mouse cage. Someone had brought him into the veterinary clinic where I worked at the time having found him trapped in their shed (or some such thing). We seldom saw birds at work (aside from injured wildlife) and no one knew exactly what he was. We put on his record simply 'Lorikeet'.
I went home that evening and began the arduous task of convincing everyone to let me keep a bird in the house. Considering how many other animals I had it wasn't easy, but I got there in the end.
After a little research I happened across a picture of a cinnamon mutation Scaly Breasted Lorikeet and there wasn't a doubt in my mind: that was Peter.
He's in training at the moment and loving every second. His hobbies include tearing things up, ignoring me, disobeying me, crapping in his own water bowl and being a brat all-round.
Humphrey is a recent edition to the family. I took the risk (again) of rescuing another bird which I knew nothing about. Humphrey came from a seemingly pleasant family nearby. He was fully flighted, long taloned and bad tempered. He's getting better now, but not without a solid handful of sunflower seeds.
Apparently he's one and a half, but I'm not sure how true that is. His training will start once he's a little more comfortable and confident.
I hope Peter, Humphrey and I will learn plenty of neat stuff from the other bird enthusiasts here. Feel free to say hello.
