Hi there
My name is Brooke and my beloved bird got outside tonight. I live in Melbourne and are so scared that he will not survive the night! Has anyone had that happen to them? Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks so much :)

Not such a good note to start off with and I am so sorry to hear this news. I don't know what type of resources you have there but you could call all of the vets and let them know in case someone brings it in there, maybe putting it on the local radio station, ask neighbors to watch for the bird and go out looking for the bird. good luck in finding your bird.

Thank you so much for your reply and kind thoughts. At the moment I am hugely concerned with him surviving the weather. It's going down to 3 degrees overnight. If he survives I have no doubt he will come back in the morning. I'm hoping he has found a warm spot. He's too little and precious to be out alone all night. Again thanks so much for your message. Take care :)

k, it is winter where you are, I forgot about that. If it was dark when he went out then he is probably close by so I would be out looking with a flashlight, go slowly as they can be hard to see.

Oh, geez! That's terrible! I hope you found him because I doubt he will come back in the morning.

I don't know how cold 3 degrees C is as we use Fairenheit here and they can't take temperatures below 55 degrees F for any length of time. They will die from the cold.
Just looked it up and a temperature of 13 C. is about as low as they can take and any lower begins to be life threatening to them.
When Kiki, my Senegal, came here the temperature dropped to about 30 F. ( -1 C.) for about 2 hours and she was nearly froze to death when she tried to come in the house and I caught her.

He may have gotten into a wild bird flock. Keep looking and calling. Put up a bird feeder to attract birds in. He might be with those birds.
He may have gone to another human. Keep asking people, vets, newspaper, pet shops and etc.

Because it's not in their nature. They are not domesticated, don't have a mate, a nest or a flock to return to and are not homing pigeons PLUS the cold affects them terribly and, even if they don't die from it, it leaves them so disoriented that they don't move from wherever they might have perched during the night.
