Do Senegal Parrots have good long-term memories?

Postby Jo_Barcia » Sat Aug 22, 2015 7:23 am

Maybe a dumb question haha -- but I'm leaving for college today and won't be home until November for Thanksgiving. And while I'm not Lenny's favorite person in the house (that would be my mom!), I'd like to think we're pals. He used to hang out on my shoulder when I'd do homework, and he still likes to hang out there and give me kisses. :)

I just don't want to start out from square one when I get back; when he first met me, he didn't like me and would always bite. He'll remember who I am now, right? Do you think he'll be mad at me for leaving?

Thanks! :senegal:

Yes, he will remember you and no, I don't think he will be 'mad' with you for leaving. Usually, if they are going to be peeved (sometimes they are just overjoyed) with somebody leaving, it's with their chosen one because, as far as they are concerned, this should only happen when they die. But if their human leaves for a long time, they end up bonding with somebody else. Which is not the case here as your sennie's chosen one is your mother and you are just a flock member.

My Senegal remembers people for years. If she encounters someone she didnt like years back, she picks up exactly where she left off with them. Your biggest worry should be that the Senegal will bond more to others while you are gone. So it wont be that she is mad but that she will become more against anyone she isnt bonded to if the proper training and socialization aren't used.
