I don't give my birds bells. There is only one in the birdroom and it's a very large one (it's actually a cow bell  ) because it's the only one I ever found that it's all stainless steel (usually the clapper is not) and which has a clapper that cannot be pulled out by strong beaks.

Just like many other people who have birds, noise can be an issue, it is in my house as my Lady has hearing issues and is overly sensitive to certain types of noises. I personally don't mind except if I am having a conversation. I use whistles although I don't do it very well, because It is a natural sound that birds can make easily. I don't use things like bells because the bird may need me and not be able to get to a bell. Just my thought on it. I do think that it is cool and innovative but doesn't fit my lifestyle.

lol...I am a lousy whistler, can only whistle in and only two decent whistles, so i have got friends to teach her whistles, I really wantd her to learn the friendly giants whistle and my friend taught her. He couldnt resist teaching her the wolf whistle..sigh... My son-in-law who lives next door is a good whistler, so he whistles to Gaugan and she dances.

I can't whistle so we have to talk back and forth. "hello" or "yoohoo" are our contact calls.

I am told my birds are loud. It must be true. I recently got hearing aids.
