Hello from Dallas

Postby StephenAndKyleigh » Sun Sep 13, 2015 10:32 pm

Hey folks! I'm Stephen and my 59 day old Blue & Gold Macaw is Kyleigh. I met here when she was 12 days old and have already fallen in love. Any other Dallasites? I've read Michael's book, most of his articles, and watched a good chunk of the videos. I am really excited for Kyleigh to come home. She is being raised by a wonderful lady that lets me see her and bond with her often.

Here's us cuddling last Saturday

Welcome to the forum. I hope that both you and Kyleigh enjoy it here, she is a very beautiful bird.
We have a tendency to be of a more practical bent in our answers and sometimes not as lavish in praise than some sites, but be assured that we care about you and we care about your bird as much as if she were our very own. Thank you for sharing pictures with us we love pictures.

Awwwww, sweet baby! Welcome to the forum! Please make sure she is weaned properly. Macaw breeders tend to wean them too soon but, in the wild, babies stay with their parents until they are nine months old and the parents (usually, the father) supplements their food intake for months and months and months. These birds mature very slowly and they need the comfort and nutrition of the extra rich food for many months after they look as if they were all grown.

Also, please don't even think of training for the first year (they are juveniles until they are three years old so you have plenty of time to start training late on).

Much thanks to you both. I really appreciate it. The breeder I am working with is definitely all about taking her time and waiting until the bird is ready. She is teaching me patience!

Welcome to the forum. She is a precious baby.
They are always babies. Myrtle is 5 and equivalent to a 2 year old human child. Rambo is 30 and has matured enough to be called a 5 year old.

She will outlive you. I hope you put her in your will.
