LOL @ Liz

Wolf... I LOVE how sweet and tactful you always are while responding so helpfully to peoples posts ! I hope you never ever leave as moderator.

Jessimuse.... I am fairly new here. I do not really understand the ' second chance' stuff as I am unfamiliar with you and your previous experience, but, I know that although SOMETIMES some things can seem harsh, it realy is meant in you and your birds best interest. In my own circumstance I stayed away for a few weeks for reasons of needing to get to know more about my new bird before I could adequately speak of the ongoing circumstances. Although I was a bit overwhelmed by what was going on with no clear results back from the vet, I do value all the advice I get here as it has cleared up a lot of things that I had previously been misinformed on. Upon reading through the forums I have come to the conclusion that many of us here have some sort of ''life difficulty'' me being no exception, but we all work on that at our own comfortable pace. Birds, for the ones here, seem to be our comfort and/or , perhaps outlet? I am not always good at explaining what I am thinking or feeling. dogs are great companions as well, as are many animals, but birds have a certain..... je ne sais quoi ....

I am also glad you are back.

I revere and respect all of you. The fact that you are trying to understand and care for parrot puts you in the list of favorite people. Sometimes even a Newby will add something I thought was not mentioned before that I needed.

Wolf is an unusual person and I am number one in his fan club.
Sorry Pajarita, you hold number two position on the list. Wolf has a calming affect. Every thing you say is important knowledge that I need but you have a tendancy to fling info while in your busy schedule.

My list is very long so I cannot list you all but keep in mind that you are also an important part of the forum. You may ask a question that I needed an answer but never thought to ask.

Nice to meet you, Kakariki. :) though it's belated, welcome to the forum! I also had to give some thought into assessing my bird's situation.

My pionus, Dudley, has what were thought to be seizures, but something about it didn't seem right. So I took time off to think about it, and then I realized something.

The "seizures" ONLY happened at night. Never during the day. Now, I do have some epileptic friends, and on top of that, a dog I once had experienced seizures before we finally decided to put her down (she was really, really old). While there are some triggers, they usually happened at random without warning. The seizures didn't pick a time of day, or anything. So it didn't make sense that Dudley's "seizures" only happened at night.

So I figured that they must be night terrors. Still making improvements to his diet though, slowly and steadily. Still, there's room for exception. I'm looking for a job now, and as soon as I can afford it, I'm taking him to a vet myself, since it seems mother doesn't always listen to reason. She's improving though. She said she's thinking of taking him out more often. He has a stand above his cage he could sit on, I think the high up place would make him feel a little safer.

I also admire Wolf's attentiveness. He was honestly the easiest person to talk to, when I first joined. (kinda still is)

Well Brandon, some people here do know what they're doing, though I think the problem is just misinformation being spread, sometimes. Different sources say different things, and sometimes, people can never understand the bird's situation truly, without actually meeting the bird in person. That's why I try to be as specific as possible (though I always seem to miss something).

Actually, there is such a thing a having seizures only at night (only they are usually partial ones) so I would not dismiss the episodes as night frights -which, in my personal opinion, are not an avian problem but a captivity one. I know that people say that tiels have night frights but the only time mine had them was when we moved from the 'country' to the 'city' and there was light from a lamp across the street shining into their cage... once I took care of that, they never did again.

That is like Amos, the seizure cockatiel that I rescued, who was supposedly having seizures multiple times a day and the shelter could not keep him. I don't know what was going on at the shelter but he has not had one since I got him. I wonder if his "seizure" was caused by fear. There is no fear in my flock except for maybe Flutter clearing off perches.

Every once in a while, we do get a car driving by in the middle of the night, and the headlights can shine through the edges of the curtains. Since Dudley is in an area where he can see the front window, I wouldn't be surprised if that was it. I only have one sheet, which I have been using for Lucy, but I'll get one for Dudley too. They rarely ever happen, though, as people rarely drive through the neighborhood at such a late time (I do have a case of insomnia, so I think I would know).

But I DID say that there's room for exceptions, though. ;) I assure you that I'm not dismissing it. I'm still considering the possibility of them being seizures. I WILL get him to a vet as soon as I'm financially able to, considering my parents aren't really going to let me pay for something I can't cover right now (still frustrating, having to live with them). Meanwhile, I'm just trying my best to keep him healthy, hoping that if he does have advanced liver disease, that it will at least recover some, with a better diet.

I mean that you and other Newbies are important to this forum too. Who knows what you have observed that we did not. Who knows what question you may ask that will give info to another who has not thought to ask.

Wolf and Pajarita are loaded with info and research daily to get more then pass it on to us. They are exceptional but can't do it all even though they try. Wolf admits to not sleeping very much. I suspect that Paj is the same. That is the only way they can accomplish absorbing such info.
