Since Dudley is in an area where he can see the front window, I wouldn't be surprised if that was it. I only have one sheet, which I have been using for Lucy, but I'll get one for Dudley too. They rarely ever happen, though, as people rarely drive through the neighborhood at such a late time (I do have a case of insomnia, so I think I would know).

But I DID say that there's room for exceptions, though. ;) I assure you that I'm not dismissing it. I'm still considering the possibility of them being seizures. I WILL get him to a vet as soon as I'm financially able to, considering my parents aren't really going to let me pay for something I can't cover right now (still frustrating, having to live with them). Meanwhile, I'm just trying my best to keep him healthy, hoping that if he does have advanced liver disease, that it will at least recover some, with a better diet.

Yes, blocking out the light coming through the window is a great idea - especially since, if he does have epilepsy, seizures are triggered by flashing light.

But, liver cancer? What makes you think he has cancer? Because (and I am trying to think back carefully but this is off the top of my head -as 99.99% of my postings are- so I might be wrong about it) I don't remember ever hearing of a parrot with liver cancer... Not that it cannot happen, of course it can! but, usually, the problem is fatty liver (aka hepatic lipidosis) and this can be treated IF the damage is not so extensive that the liver can no longer perform its functions. Now, if this is what worries you, I can give you a protocol for it.

And, although seizures are a symptom of advanced liver malfunction, they are more common with kidney malfunction or a mineral imbalance. Now, when it comes to kidneys and birds, there is very little you can do unless the problem is high uric acid which can be reduced through diet and supplements, but mineral imbalance is relatively easy to take care of -and I can also tell you how if you are interested.

I must be mistaken. I didn't mean cancer. I was just going off of what you said back when I joined this forum.

pajarita wrote:Well, if he is that old and has lived all his life on a bad diet, he most likely has advanced liver damage and is beginning to affect his neurological functions (and that's why he falls off the perch - ammonia accumulates in the brain when the liver is not working right).

I must have gotten advanced liver, and fatty liver disease mixed up.

Ahhh, yes, it's easy to get confused. In any case, the liver cleansing protocol includes adding lactulose to their water which cleans the ammonia accumulation from brain tissue caused by the inability of the damaged liver to clean it out of the bloodstream (it is this ammonia in the brain that causes the visible neurological problems like instability, confusion, lack of balance, etc - even seizures!).
