This is his poop from today http://tinypic.com/r/npfjpe/9... i talked to his owner she said flicking begun 1 year ago... i think given the fact he is two now its poor diet and like wolf said it doesnt an infection wont help a parrot cause a good healthy diet improves immune system.

Pajarita wrote:Yes, that antibiotic is what we call "Bird sulfa", you can get it without a prescription so pigeon and canary fanciers get it all the time but, if I were you, I would ask your avian vet teacher to get you some liquid enrofloxacin (Baytril) and put it in his beak. It's much more effective than the sulfa.

The poop does look better, thankfully!

Don't put kale or brown rice in the mix for Sammy. Brown rice is too high in arsenic and kale, although very nutritious , is super high in sorbitol, an indigestible sugar that causes diarrhea (I can't eat it) and given the fact that he had that real bad looking poop for so long and possibly an infection, I would give him all super safe stuff - at least, until he is all better. Quinoa is good, it's one of the two seeds that has complete protein. Make sure the peppers, apple and carrots are organic (they are on the 12 dirtiest list). See if you can get him to eat baked sweet potatoes, they are really nutritious!

The enrofloxacine is the antibiotic that im giving him its liquid one drop every 24 hrs.
The apple i take the skin off and the peppers are from my balcony they are organic as we dont use pesticides or anything. The carrots i cook them before giving it to them (Baylee wont touch them if they arent cooked lol)

Chick peas or garbonzos are good, I have just never seen them dried. The only way that I have ever seen them was canned. I thought that they looked familiar, but just could not place them. I have a budgie with liver issues and I give him milk thistle extract the non alcohol kind to help his liver.

From i was told the sulfa only is a gastric protector & antidiarrehic but is not an antibiotic!
He is not flicking his wings as much! At least today he do it but not as much as yesterday. Could it be the Infection was causing that as a symptom?... Considering that it might mean he has been 1 year with the infection :o and owner doesnt know and 'shell' under the excuse that she works all day and doesnt have time to see if his poop is ok or not :/ this is another reason why i think Sammy would be much better with me, i have tried to teach her what i know,so she can take better care of her birds but people sometimes wont listen!!!

I forgot to mention he likes to go to the bottom of his cageand try to eat his droppings but he cant reach them! I was reading this on internet and read they can contract adnormal bacteria from doing this, Juliet was doing that the day before she died!

Probably she had been two years fighting an infection and when change came it was too late and owner didnt knew they were infected and didnt did the treatment as told cause last year she took Tony (lovie) to the vet and got a treatment for him and the bird never progressed i told her "its weird" and she did said "i never have time for that!" then said "yeah i put the treatment like the vet told me, he also said to change diet" i told her "if you dont change diet they will NEVER fully improve! And they can get sick & die!" Which is happening! She told me yesterday that Pepito (lovie) his feathers are getting ugly he is 12 years old and his feathers had been ugly for the last 3 months! She has had him for 3 years now. He is looking like this: https://mickaboo.org/confluence/downloa ... 7621918000 (this is not him, he is a white faced, also he still have his tailfeathers)
Juliet looked the same without a tail!

The lighting in this picture produces a glare on the bird making it hard to see much more than a silhouette which is definitely unflattering to the bird, I would not want to evaluate the birds condition based on this picture.

i think he was forced to wean as he see the serynge with the antibiotic and he thinks im going feed him... he have the same reaction that the lovies chick i raised had as babies..o_O follow the serynge, open beak.. swallow difference is that when he realizes its not formula he is like wait is that it o_O and follow the serynge like gives me more i need it...he is 2 years old!
Im willing to bet owner just forced him to eat on his own after week #6 or #7!
:( :'( and clipped him then which is why he doesnt fly!
Even after i put the serynge away he tries to climb to where i put it and complains when he cant reach it! He is smaller than other conures i have seen in pet stores.. maybe it is because he was forced to wean... He measures about 18.5 cm (7.2") he is slightly bigger than Baylee.. Brown throated conure usually measures 10" (25 cm)...
Baylee herself is smaller for a lovie she measures 5" when she should be 6" her vet told me she probably didnt recieved the proper nutrients as a chick in the nest. Which made her smaller...anyway... Sammy 's parents were probably fed with a very poor diet too! Another reason why he is smaller too!

You would be a better judge of what Sammy went through up until you started baby sitting him as you know his owner and have access to more of his past information than we do. Malnutrition could easily be the cause of his being smaller than normal and I am speaking in terms of both malnutrition of his parents from before his egg was laid all the way through his own direct malnutrition, And early or forced weaning is also responsible for many eating disorders in parrots that do not show up right away, but wait and show up later on in their lives, at least according to what I have researched about it.
However, I think that I would take advantage of his predilection to want the syringe feedings by giving him a weekly dose of fruit juice from the fruits that you are currently feeding him. The reason that I would do this is that if this is done regularly he will always be easy to medicate using a syringe, which helps a lot whenever he might get sick. I find that it is best to go along with such predilections and natural behaviors when I find them as it makes my life easier and is less stressful for the bird as well.
