Not exactly new but finally a picture

I finally found an app to reduce my photo size so here is a picture of Cricket! He is now 9 months old. I really appreciate the support everyone on the forum has provided since I got him in February.

Not sure yet if Cricket is a he or she. The vet took two feathers for testing but the test came back inconclusive so Monday we will do a blood test. For some reason, I think and say "he" but s/he may prove me wrong!

Apparently, your 'some reason' is common to most bird keepers because it's been found that 85% of parrot owners choose a masculine name for their bird.

That reason may be due to the fact that most of us are not really familiar with birds other than local songbirds in which the male is more colorful than the female and in parrots that is not usually the case. Sounds good, anyway.

Haha! Really? Wow, I do this with cats and dogs Cats all femals and dogs all males

Really?! But why female for cats and male for dogs? Any particular reason or is just something that 'comes out' of your brain without you knowing why. I am not trying to make fun of you or anything, I am curious, that's all. I not only use the gender-appropriate name for all my animals, I also use, mostly, human names for them. And I say mostly because I also name the feral cats I feed and, sometimes, I use a name that describes them physically for expediency (like 'Negrita' because she is all black, 'Pinto' because he is black and white, etc')

I really dont know why I do it! It is funny though, because I will always call male cats a 'she', and female dogs (other than our own) a he!
It has to have to do with the fact I find certain traits in animals more feminine or masculine.
Cats have always seemed like females to me, they do what they want, and if they dont like something they walk away, and they are fierce fighters when they want to be.
Dogs are more docile, they are calm, and in general they just dont seem bothered to hold a grudge the same as cats. (No offence to any boys or girls!!!)
It might also have to do with me reading andy grithis's book 'the bad book' when I was younger,

The bad teacher 1: All cats are girls and all dogs are boys

I used to love these books.

I guess I just steriotype in my head... a lot I do to birds too, eg.conures, yellow tailed black cockatoos, galahs and major mitchels are girls... sulfurs and red tailed black cockatoos are boys.
Yellow budgies are females, green and blue are males.
I think I manage to annoy people a lot like this though, they will start talking about their animal lets say a she, and I will be all over it saying 'aww arent you just a pretty boy'
