Hi, my name is Karen. I am new to the board but not so new to parrots. I've been hanging around for a few years here and there.
I have 2 Green Winged Macaws; Kady & Kita. Kady (male) is about 30 years old and Kita (female) is about 50 years old.
Looking forward to getting to know those I don't know, saying Hi to those I do know and joining in on the conversations from time to time.

Hey Karen, welcome to the Parrot Forum. Wow those birds are quite old. Do you know if they were domestically bred or wild caught?

Hi Michael, I don't know for sure one way or the other. They don't have bands. I've always suspected wild caught though, especially for the oldest one. She's a very solid, wise, even tempered, stoic bird.
I don't have actual documentation to their ages though. Their ages are a guesstimate by adding together a little background information, vet care and their vets opinion, along with the years they've been with me. The older one has some typical old age medical conditions that usually take place at certain milestones in a Macaws lifespan according to what little research has been done regarding aging in Macaws.
