Hello :)

Postby robbie1988 » Wed Jun 08, 2016 6:17 am

Hi, I am from Australia and I own a few different birds. My parents in law live next door and we share our back yard. I have attached a photo of all the birds we love and have.

Because I work for most of the day and have a son now I don't have much time to spend with them however my father in law has been in the breeding business for over 15 years now and absolutely loves it... He even got me into it.

I love my parrots but I could never find time to train them to talk. I only had enough time to keep them tamed and attached to me... So I had my wife record her voice and I made it into a loop every 30 seconds so they would learn. It was completely amazing how well it worked. My African grey learnt within days. Even my eclectus and macaws... I only use to have it play for one hour. So recently I decided to also create a YouTube channel where I can help other people who go to work 12 hours a day and are unable to teach them to talk.

Like I said before completely love them and I am so grateful that I have my father in law next door to help me or most of them would be gone by now.

Please let me know what type of parrots you have :)

Welcome to the forum, Robbie and friends! Nice collection of needy birds you got there D You are lucky your father in law spends time with them or you could end up with very unhappy birds. Now, this is not a criticism, I am glad you found a way to teach your birds to talk and that you are happy with it. But, personally, I try very hard to teach them cognitive speech. This is not so much for myself but for their benefit. I firmly believe that parrots learn to say human words in an effort to communicate with us the same way they communicate with their family in the wild and the only way to satisfy this need is to teach cognitive speech.

I do not trane or teach my birds. They have learned to talk buy listening to me and others. Rambo can join in a conversation but Myrtle still uses baby blabber when she does not have the words.
My aunt uses "Oh well" to dismiss me when she is loosing in a conversation. One day my aunt was pointing her finger at Myrtle and telling her she had done something bad. Myrtle used "Oh well" to bush her away.
Be careful what you say. They can also use your words to back talk when told no.

A very beautiful flock you have there!! What's the little green guy on the right (name and species)? He's adorable. :swaying:

Oh my gosh, liz, that is hilarious! That reminds me of my late mother's parrots she used to own--her African Grey (Aggie) picked up a number of colorful words that she'd deploy at hilariously opportune (and not-so-opportune) moments, and she even learned how to say my one sister's name in such a way that, especially at three in the morning, reminded her of a horror film and scared her witless. My mother's sulphur-crested cockatoo (Sunshine) never really picked up speech as well as Aggie had, but he had a mean raptor screech and random baby-babble he'd retort with when it fit his own agenda. Parrots really have colorful personalities, once they grow into their feathers and you have the opportunity to get to know them!!

Owlyssa, I don't know the name but the bird is a red-shoulder macaw (could be a Hahn's or a Noble, I can't tell because it's too small).

It's the little green guy off to the far right, the one with the white eye/face mask. It does look like the red-shoulder macaw Pajarita spoke of! S/he's adorable.
