Hi everybody

Would just like to introduce myself. I am the proud owner of a beautiful African grey called Smokey.
He is 19years old and I have had him from a 4 month old baby. I have had to foster him out for a while as my husband found his dust was affecting his breathing badly as he has copd.
I am absolutely heartbroken but have to put my husbands health first.

Welcome to the forum.

A bath every day will hold down the dander and use a vacuum instead of a broom to keep from just spreading it around. Most of us have air cleaner near out birds and that does help.

Welcome to the forum and I am soooo sorry for your situation! I also have COPD but manage very well with the preventive twice a day, air purifiers in the winter (in the warm weather months, I use window fans, one in Intake and the other one in Exhaust to change the air continuously) and humidifiers (the moisture in the air 'traps' the dander). Will you be able to bring him back for good or is this a potentially permanent arrangement?

Thanks Liz and Pajarita for your replies. Smokey is being fostered for 6months to see if my husbands breathing is any better without him here. He is being cared for in a very loving home and they send me lots of photos and videos of Smokey which helps. I could go and visit but don't want to unsettle him.

I can't say that the dust from my Grey has any effect at all on my COPD. Thought that after having replied in your other topic that I should add this to it.

You do need to be carefull, I did not even have asthma untill I got cockatiels and the effect takes a while to build up. It pays to be carefull when it is your breathing. i have really good air filters and humidifiers or even my Pois would bother me
