Found my first bird.

Postby fox » Fri Jan 27, 2017 11:21 pm

Took me a while but a bird finally choose me.
I found sparrow at my pet store I work at. He will be a year soon and I'm want to bring him home before that.
Before I bring him home I want to make sure I'm completely ready for him and have people I can ask things about him if I have any questions. So here I am.

I was expecting to hear about a parrot lol, I don't know much about Sparrows but the ones out in the wild here are tiny and cute and they also steal nests and get into fights lol.

Sparrow is a wonderful name for a Green Cheek Conure, even if the name confused some members into thinking that your new friend was a sparrow. Please tell us more if you can and feel free to ask as many questions as you want to and we will answer to the best of our ability.

Haha that was pretty silly of me to not explain that better. He came with his name because he was such a shy bird when I first met him. He wouldn't step up on hands and just ran away. After I met him he opened up and now will get on my hand.
I have had quite a few pets in my life and have already spent a long time reading up on green cheeks. I printed out a do's and don'ts list of on my fridge so he never gets anything he shouldn't.
The only question I have for now is what are somethings you think are most important for a first time owner to know.

I'm sure I'll have a ton more after I get him and start this life with him. :3

Try to give him a perch at eye level.
I am sure you will feed him the right foods but the way of feeding is another matter.
Make time to spend in the room with him even when you are not paying attention to him. It will give him time to figure you out. (Watch TV, read a book, sing in the room and etc.) He will also wonder why you put him in a different world. He does have the advantage that he knows you a little.
