Hey alL!

Postby Titanius » Sun Apr 18, 2010 2:27 pm

Greetings from New York!
I had thought about getting a lovebird but the distance was a problem. So I found a closer place and I got my cockatiel today. He's around 6 months old. I've owned parakeets before but this one seems somewhat different. I've already found myself captivated by him.

He started out not wanting to eat anything at all. I even used millet to coax him towards me but he wouldn't take it at all. Maybe nibble it. I even tried some of the seeds and he only would eat a sunflower seed or 2 from me. Now he wants millet and only that(to the point of fighting me off for it). So it's been a bit hit and miss on taming him. I've gotten him to step up but I've found that my shoulder is his go-to place and he's pretty much willing to deal with my fingers if the final destination is the shoulder area. Tips?

ive figured out its a dominance issue, my :senegal: trys to do it, less often now cause i just get him off asap. as for the feeding try him with veg as well. cauliflower, carrot, broccoli and if he doesnt eat them dont worry, birds sometimes take a while. you could pretend to eat it in front of him emphasising how good it is. i only have to say yum yums and chico is there. google the foods that they cant eat, there are lists on here. let us know how you get on.
