I am sorry but I was furious at the unsolicited so called advice.
I adore my baby's and I give them a mix so they can choose for themselves what they like. I am not a Parakeet owner, I am a Parakeet mum. And have been for 30 years.
Sorry...
Anne, Dandelion and Burdock.

Except when the members of this forum correct me and set me straight I run on Mommy instincts.

I learned with my son to give him the healthy stuff first. You know the stuff he only eats when he is actually hungry. The desert was always at the end of the meal like seed to top off the end of the birds day and make sure their bellies are full at bed time. My daughter, like Myrtle, will eat anything I give her or what she can steal.

Right at dawn I give the Amazons a small pistachio nut sort of like an appetizer before their fruit, veggies and soaked grain.

I do not ever say what is right since I still believe I don't know enough. I usually just give info on how I am with my feathered kids.

So glad you decided to stay. Each one of us have something to contribute. I can't wait to read what you know and I don't.

Your apology is accepted with no hard feelings but I am afraid that what you call unsolicited advice is, in reality, what bird forums are all about... At least, that is what we are all about here in this site. We take husbandry VERY seriously because we not only love our own birds but all birds regardless of who their owner is, and take their care very seriously as love alone doesn't keep a bird healthy or happy. So, when we read something that we don't agree with, we comment on it. It's not an attack or even anything personal against the OP, it's just that bird husbandry is in its infancy, the industry is unregulated, and there is a whole lot of misinformation out there so we feel a responsibility in calling people's attention to things that we question. Sometimes it's just a misunderstanding and all it takes is for the OP to clarify... We don't actually expect people to take our word for anything, we just want people to research and objectively evaluate the issue in question.

But I have to tell you that we don't allow foul language or insults here. Personally, I don't get offended or even bothered by them (I have a very thick skin :D ) but we need to look at the bigger picture and consider that we get children, teenagers and even adults that would be very bothered by bad language, insults or personal attacks - aside from the fact that they are explicitly forbidden in the rules.
