At the shop I worked at when a customer buys a baby bird they must bring the cage the bird will live in into the shop and set it up so the bird can live in it for a while. That way the bird will have something familiar when he goes to his new home and also insures that the baby is maintaining his weight in a cage. (the babies are kept in large open bins when they are being hand fed) It also allows the people who raised the birds (like me) to know that the bird will have a proper sized cage.
