Should I release my parrot?

Postby Ceren » Fri Apr 30, 2010 7:49 am

Hello I am Ceren from India. I am so happy that I find such a forum to ask questions and learn everything about the parrots.

Indeed 10 days ago I found a parrot in our garden, it is baby ring neck parrot, probably fell down from the nest. so I adopted the parrot in order to save it from other dangerous animals and now trying to tame it at home. However each time the parrots are singing outside , my parrot is replying to them from its cage at home, and I feel very bad as if I catched it on purpose and seperating it from the nature where it belongs to. Now that it also learned to fly but hitting the wall each time.

So my question is if I release the parrot to the garden now, can it live on its own? I also heard that other parrots misbehave to the ones that are tamed at the houses and try to kill it since it is not from the community.

What should I do? I would be very happy if anyone could advise me in this issue.

Many thanx
Ceren

If it has only been ten days then the parents of the bird you rescued are probably still around. You might try setting him outside in the cage and watching to see if any other Ringnecks approach the bird. If you keep the bird too long he will lose the ability to survive on his own but he may still have a chance now if the parents or his flock are still around.
