Hi new here

Hi I was directed here after replying to a you tube clip so thought I'd come along and meet you and introduce myself. My name is Sarah I amd 31 and live in the UK and have a boyfriend 2 kids 2 cats a bearded dragon and I have been keeping birds for 6 months and started with one but I think it's contagious coz somehow I have 7 now (soon to be 8).

I have 6 Budgies 1 quaker and in July / august I will be getting a yellow sided green cheek conure but it's not born yet so I have to wait. my budgies live in a mini aviary I am hand training them with the help of my 12 yr old daughter but as you can imagine with 6 it's slow going I mean it's like having a bunch of 6 4 year olds lol but it's fun and when you see an improvement the reward is unimaginable it's like when your kids take theyre first steps say theyre first words eat with a spoon lol it makes all the hard work worth while.

The newest bird I have is a quaker parrot he is 9 months old (I call him he but we don't now) I called him casper he was allready tame (ish) he does step up he will sit on your shoulder and give kisses but I read that being on your shoulder is a sign of them being dominent and not to let them on your shoulder untill they stop biting when we didnt let him on our shoulders for a few days and me and my daughter have recieved less bites hardly atall now (so wethere it's true or not it worked for us) allthought casper hates my partner he has chases him across the room and will try lungeing for him lol.

Anyway that's enough about me hope I get the chance to chat to you all and get some good advice and hopefully throw a bit of mine in too.

Welcome! You have some beautiful budgies. Looks like they're happy fully enjoying those wings!

Yes, Multiple Bird Syndrome is a very common thing around this forum . I haven't had a chance to have a second bird yet, but that's only due to money and space issues!

The budgies were very easy to get carried away with coz they are so cheap lol but allthou harder to tame with 6 I don't regret any of them they are allready a large noisey and messy part of the familly lol.

As Mandy said, Multiple Bird Syndrome is common. I have a Senegal and Red-Belly and planning on adding another addition to my flock next year.

lol good I am glad It's a common condition lol was hopeing I wasn't alone :0) thanks for the welcome I will definatly take a look around having a few issues with the new quaker he loves me and my daughter he gives kisses lets us pet him and will come to us but he's wary of my son and my bf he literally chases across the room lol he will try get through hell and high water to eat him lol. (it's funny to watch but hope I can find a way round this as when me and my bf are sat on the wii if I let him sit in his cage with in a few mins hes down and trying to find ways of wreaking pain on my parter lol

Even if it's funny NEVER laugh when your quaker is doing that! That's very strong reinforcement when it's coming from a favorite person. I've been dealing with my own jealous bird, it's not an easy thing to do even when they're not getting encouraged!

whoops ok thanks will remember that - It's amazing how much like kids they are ... when a kid swears or sound like theyre swearing or doing something wrong but funny and you laugh they do it more I didn't look at it like that .. thankyou I will definatly stop the laughing I was having a sandwhich last night and I got my bf to feed him a small piece as it may get him to like him if he helps me hand feed him so he can see he isnt a threat.
