Welcome to the forum. We look forward to hearing about your bird.

Some things we want to know is:
What is your birds name?
What are you feeding him?
What is his light schedule?
and so on

We love our birds and will love yours too.

Welcome to the forum! I don't know exactly what you mean by 'a bit of training' but, if this involves actual sessions, I would wait until the bird is 8 months old because, at five months of age, he is still a baby and babies should not be formally trained. It backfires and it puts too much stress on the bird risking your future relationship with him. This doesn't mean that you are not able to teach the bird, it just means that formal sessions, especially if you do them early in the morning using the bird's hunger as incentive - a complete NONO!
