We lived with are African Gray for a year now,He is fantastic.Really no more trouble then my 3 year old daughter!
Recently I went to buy a pacific parrotlets for my step son at a woman house who was family breeder. She informed me she was retire ring and selling most of her birds. My family suddenly found are selves with 8 more birds plus one more every second week end.
The thing is I own 4 cats, as they are smaller breeds then my :gray: most of my cats enjoy watching them witch is a bad thing.I lock up the cats when i leave.
I wonder if I should set up a a aviary in my garage?
if so what are things i need to consider?I live in mtl canada.
so the climate can be really hot or really cold.
I had them in my solarium but it was to hot for them so moved them into my house.

most of the birds are really friendly with a little attitude, but i am concerned for there safety.

Hi and welcome to the forum! Your writing is fine... don't worry about it!

As far as your birds and cats go, I guess we'd need more details about your situation. Are the birds in 8 separate cages? Do the cats have a place they can go when the birds are out? How much out of cage time do the birds get? Does your garage have any fumes from housing cars etc? There are a lot of things to consider. What is the temperature in your garage? Are you able to control the temperature there? Here is an article on birds and temperatures they can withstand. http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-diet-an ... birds.aspx

I lock up the cats in solarium or the bathroom when i give them fly time or walking time .I give them at least a hour a day of fly time.
the birds are paired up.in total I have 5 cages.my garage has a heater in it ,light sockets no cars can go the door is 2 small.it is divided into 2rooms.by a door and wall.It isnt isolated floors are cement.
I checked out that website witch is the reason why i took them out of the solarium.all though when the temp, was right they where extremely happy there, but i had to use 3 air conditioners on a few extremely hot days we had,and it was still 32 deg.I would mist them with water.
For now they are in my house.
i hiss at my cats when they stare.lock the cats up when i leave.
thank u
