Hahns and Noble Macaws can be very sweet though they have a reputation for nippiness.

Wow! Thanks for all of the replies and information! Glad to see the discussion going so well! Yes, I did mention I liked Macaws, but after handling a few, and reviewing my current living situation, I realized they might not be the right parrot for me at this point. I think my natural gravitation towards Macaws had to do with me being more comfortable with larger animals, and their gorgeous colors, though I feel now those are the wrong main reasons for picking a parrot (IMHO). After meeting a few African Greys I started to gravitate towards them as I was impressed by their intelligence and their playfulness. I am extremely worried about my 40 hour work week, though. I have all the time in the world for my parrot after 5:30 pm on weekdays, and all day on weekends, but I fear this might not be enough based on what I’ve heard/read.

I will definitely check the cape parrot out! From what I’ve read about them so far, I like the sounds of them. I would like to meet a couple of them. I’ll have to look up the other parrots you suggested as well. I actually did look into Galahs as they sound like very quirky parrots, but I can’t seem to find anyone who breeds them. A friend of mine had a Galah and she did mention he could be unpredictably aggressive at times, but that might be more or less one individual Galah’s personality. Besides, aren’t we all unpredictable on occasion? :) Pionus parrots are very gorgeous, too!

Pchela, if you post your explanation on African Greys vs. other parrots in another thread, I would appreciate it if you would provide a link. I too, am very interested to hear what you have to say! :D

Yes, I would also be interested in following an African Grey discussion! I'm definitely not looking at one right now, I think the GCC will be great to explore the world of parrots, but I find African Greys so intriguing. I picked up Dr Pepperberg's book the other day, describing her work with Alex; it's truly inspiring!

i think it would be cool to have a discussion of all the popular parrot breeds. i love macaws but it would be a long time before i would ever be able to get one. i also love galahs and if they would be right for my home that might be my second bird :galah: <3
