Hello from the G20 summit "ravaged" lands!

Postby lainmai » Sun Jun 27, 2010 5:37 pm

Just joined up today but have been stocking the forums for a few weeks!

Name is Melissa and I am a 28yo college student taking Web Development & Design, and am also a graduate in the field of Animal Care. I had a lovebird in high school but my father became severely allergic to birds so I was unable to have more after Kiwi died at only 2yo. I am currently owned by two Pacific Parrotlets, Minoru and Midori (tried to tame Midori but alas she wants nothing to do with me so I rescued a male which she has since become attached to). I am soon to also be owned by an unnamed Senegal which is currently 6-7 weeks old and being hand fed by the breeder.

I have experience working at my local zoo handling Macaws, Cockatoos, as well as a Yellow fronted Amazon and other small-medium parrots.

I look forward to learning & reading about everyone's little 'fids!

Cage, picture is about a year old now but you can see how much SPACE there is!

Image
Day after adopting Minoru he figured out how to open his cage door and flew 3 rooms over to Midori's cage which was in my bedroom. His quarantine was short to say the least!

Image
Silly me decided to see how they would both behave out of the cage for the first time at the same time. I was doing my homework with each bird on opposite sides of the 2 window wide drapes, within 15-20mins I heard a noise to look up and realize to me "horror" that what I expected to be an all out fight was in fact the opposite....they have not been able to be separated since!

AND last but not least....my fav pic of Midori from last summer after she had a mist bath. She has a little fro'hawk going on, too cute!

Welcome to the board!

I live in Guelph and can't believe what has been happening in downtown Toronto this weekend. I know its downtown Toronto, but I feel like I'm watching something happening in the middle east ... not in Canada. My husband and step-son are down at Ontario Place for a concert tonight ... I'm pretty sure they'll be fine there because the protests aren't anywhere close to there, but I'll be uneasy until they get home tonight.

I know!! I don't have TV so I've only heard about it on the radio as well as seeing videos online. It makes me sick to think it is happening here! I'm horrified that people are blaming the police and emergency forces as well! They don't deserve it! I have several family members which I know are working the G20 & really don't want to know what they have had to go through !

Hi! Cute birds! Congrats on your baby too - when does he come home?

I'm new too...used to live in Guelph, hubby worked in Toronto...now we live in Saskatchewan.

I was watching the news...geez. Great impression to give the world...bored kids thinking it's cool to trash the downtown...

Yeah....hopefully what is remembered long after all this is the fact its far from typical behavior!!

I'm looking at picking my little 'fid up mid-july. Should be about 9 weeks when I get it.
Still waiting on DNA testing to see what it is before I solidify a name. It seems the closer it gets to me finally getting it the more names I have written down instead of less names to pick from!! I might have to utilize my friends on a few forums to pick a name out for it in the end.

It is nice to see so many Canucks on here! I the past I thought we were an endangered species on the forums I used to inhabit, lol!

Just a couple more weeks! Exciting!

I gave all my birds unisex names...that way it didn't matter (not that the birds care!) if they were males or females...

I love picking names though...I have a short-list on hand all the time...er, just in case! ;)

Sorry to butt in as the only non-canadian here, but what exactly is going on over there?

BTW, welcome to the forum, you will find a wealth of resources especially for Senegals. I made a nice index of hot topics and helpful articles to get you started.

Near riot on the streets by "Black Blox" protesters. Pretty much they burned 5 cop cars, destroyed stores, looted and ended up forcing the shut down of the transit system and many many buildings/tourist spots in Toronto =(

Thanks for the welcome & the resources Michael! I've been reading for a few hours now and find the information very helpful =)

And as for names, those are both on my short short list
