This bird is now at least 17 years old now. Just recently, within the last 2 months my daughter, in cleaning out "Charlies" cage had run across something totally unexpected. "Charlie" it seems is a "Charleen". As of this typing, Charleen has laid 5 eggs
What can my daughter do to stop this? and WHY did it take Charleen so long in laying eggs?
I had read, on this internet, that possibly leaving the eggs in with her will maybe stop her laying and or to remove her to a quieter room and darker area would help also. What can be done and is this harmful for the bird?
Between my family, parents and sister we have had and still have a macaw
Personally I believe the 2 birds that had started laying the eggs, the macaw and this senegal, were both in my parents possion and my father was rather mean to them, cussing and yelling at them, and I believe when they were given away into a better enviorment to where they are safer and treated better, they feel this lessing of the tension and are responding by laying eggs. Possible?
I would really like some help in telling my daughter how to handle this. thanks all in advance.
