It's a girl!

Postby Ryan416 » Sat Jul 24, 2010 1:27 am

So, I get my baby Ruppell's Parrot tomorrow and it's near impossible to sleep.

The one I picked (actually she picked me) turns out to be a girl. I'm still a little spooked about the possible egg laying situation, I'll have to be a little extra cautious.

I'll post some pictures when I get home tomorrow

congratulations! You'll have to post photos right away! I don't think anybody else here owns a Ruppells. They're beautiful... especially the girls!

Congrats! Looking forward to pics. Don't be too hung up on the egg-laying issue. Number one, she might never lay one. Number two, if she does, odds are it won't be an issue.

I hope to get a picture when she spreads her wings, the blue and yellow looks amazing.

Here is one of her having a little ciesta by the window.

Oh yes, she does love attention and foot toys. She has also said a few words already "hi baby", "what ya doin" and what sounds like my name... so adorable!

I'm not sure if it's just being a silly bird or if she's struggling to get around her cage? This is a very stressful to see her occasionally slip up, she also took a fall down behind my curtains. It broke my heart but she got right back up and had a bath shortly after. I've been going around the apartment making sure everything is safe (took down the curtain for now, she wanted to roost up there). Trying to give her space and quiet time to rest, while keeping social time to less then 4 hours a day. But, I'm finding myself following her around the room and checking on her often. :?

I could really use some pointers on the first few months with a small parrot. She is still being a baby and sleeping on the bottom of the cage LOL. I just don't want her to be stressed or develop bad habits (like hating her cage), otherwise she has been wonderful and has mastered the "step up" and often will come to me when I call out "here!"
