Hello from Astoria, NY

Postby cabanird » Sat Jul 31, 2010 7:20 am

Hello Everyone,

I fell in love with your videos of Killi and Truman and I thought that maybe I can try to do this with my 5 year old Senegal Parrot, Dana (prounounced "donna"). She came to me from another family who were from Russia and moved back to Russia last year. I've had her in my apartment for one year. We do not clip her wings, so she flies to me, her little gym, her rope toy, chairs, etc, all over the apartment. But yes, she still gets into a whole bunch of trouble!! I live alone, but I am dating someone, and she hates my boyfriend!! Jealous!

Right now, I am trying to convert Dana to pelleted food. I saw your video on the pellets, however, I still went with Zupreem fruit blend. She is eating more of the pellets, though seems to beg for the seeds by tipping over the dish and spilling food all over the floor! I'm giving her only a half teaspoon of seeds now, very little, mixed in with a tablespoon of pellets. Any tips would be appreciated.

Also, about 3 weeks ago, Dana started to lose some of her feather, I believe she is molting, but I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks everyone, have a great weekend!

Hello and Welcome! we'd love to see pics of your Sennie. :senegal:
mine hates my husband too, i guess thats one of their quirks.
but i must says she has excellent taste!! :D she's quite the bird!
she won't eat her pellets anymore either so i try to make sure she gets a nice variety of fresh foods everyday plus her seed/pellet mix.

Welcome to the board! There are lots of Senegal owners around here. We'd love to see pictures of Dana.

If not careful, Senegal's tend to become one person birds. We've had Jessie for 4 years and he has always been my bird. I can do anything to him, but as soon as my husband or step kids go near him he lets them know he doesn't like it.

Sounds like he is molting. It's a normal thing and my two are still molting ... they started about 2 months ago.

Dana reminds me of my Jessie. He used to loosen his food bowl and knock it out of his cage whenever he had eaten what he liked ... there could still be a full bowl, but he would let me know that he was done. I have clips for his food and water bowl now because I got tired of wasting food and most importantly, I got tired of cleaning up the mess

This is Dana on her Rope toy, however, she is on a toy hanging from the rope toy that I made. It is made of coffee filters, and I skewered them onto one of those birdie kabob things. She loves this toy! now I put some blocks in between a chunk of coffee filters, it gives her something else to ruffle through. She really does love this toy. I dont know why...
