Poop problem

Postby Fifthring » Sat Aug 28, 2010 9:14 pm

Hi everyone:

I own a wonderful, young Conure and I seek some advice. Hopefully, someone will have had a similar issue and can lend some expertise. I have had my bird for about eight months and have been weighing the pros and cons of getting his wings clipped. He loves to fly around our home and follow me and my girlfriend, and we both love that experience. The problem is that he poops here and there. We have been patient with him and have tried unsucessfully to train him to do his business in his cage. We have made no progress. I do not want to have his wings clipped, but refuse to have him pooping in inoppertune places. I have heard that there is a method to potty train birds. If anyone knows how we might go about this, I would be grateful for advise.

Thank you,

Pennoyer's Dad

Didn't really toilet train my GCC, but when I thought he might go I would put him over a napkin and he would do his business. Now when he' out of the cage he won't do it unless I put him over a piece of paper(accidents do happen once in a while). Sometimes if I wanted him to go too early he would fake it and be ready to play.

I should post a video

Franklin will fake it too! He's learned that after a while of playing, I'll put him back on the playstand, and I'll wait to pick him up until he's gone. He now mimes taking a poop perfectly!
