Hello!

Postby Heather » Thu Nov 12, 2009 5:18 pm

Hello all! My name is Heather and I am currently owned by four birds...Jasper (Senegal), Winston (Canary), and Kiwi & Elvis (Budgies).

My feathered soul mate is Jasper, people usually can't believe how bonded he is to me or how goofy he is. I've had him since he was a few months old, and I brought him home in mid-august of this year. I traveled around three hours each way to get my boy from his breeder. Jazzy loves to cuddle and is a total ham when he's out.

Winston is a lovable little Canary that is unusually friendly for not being hand-tame. Kiwi and Elvis are a bonded pair of Budgies that aren't hand-tame (but are not breeders), and definitely prefer to be around each other than to be around people.

As for me...I'm an eighteen year old college student currently attending Penn State majoring in pre-veterinary science with hopes to continue to vet school. Over the years, I've had Cockatiels, and they have a special place in my heart. Besides spoiling and adoring my birds, I ride/train horses, write, read, and am an amateur photographer.

Welcome! It's nice to meet you Heather. Thanks for joining our forum. It sounds like you have a great career goal lined up for yourself.

I noticed in your user profile, it says you have a blue eyed Senegal parrot. I never knew senegals had blue eyes. It's nice to meet you and your flock of birds.

Please feel free to post pictures of all of your birds, ask questions around the forum and enjoy!

He's actually a 'Blue-eyed Orange-belly Senegal Parrot' (say that five times fast), basically instead of his eyes becoming the traditional bright gold, his will stay the silver of a young bird.

His scientific name is Poicephalus senegalus mesotypus :senegal: .

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!

Ok, that's still a Senegal Parrot but of another subspecies. The nominate subspecies is Poicephalus Senagalus Senegalus which is most common. The three subspecies of Senegal Parrots are:

Poicephalus senegalus senegalus
Poicephalus senegalus mesotypus
Poicephalus senegalus versteri

Welcome to the forum. Please share photos of your Senegal, I'd be curious to see how different it is from the common Senegal.

Michael I don't know why but I read your post and read "That's a horse of a different color." Wizard of Oz on the brain I guess. :P

Can't wait to see pics of the blue eyes...
