Hi, welcome to the forum. What do you mean by your reaction causes to throw the bird flying around?

Hi!, sorry for taking too long to answer, well cuz u know, nobody likes to be bitten by your bird, so its kind of like im always expecting the bird to bite me, so whens he seems to do so, i get scared and move my hand in a rapid move and the bird flyes :P...but now im focusing on one bird cuz my other one died, one he just stood still like a rock...so sad but anyhow.

im working on trying to let her step up onto my finger without her beeing afraid. its my 3rd session and she already know touch training and step up on a stick to touch the target....but when it comes to step up onto my finger she just bail...hahaha, cya!

If it helps you feel more confident, you can try wearing a glove on one of your hands (the hand that the bird will be stepping up onto) and this could prevent any bites from hurting you. The bird may bite the glove but you wouldn't be able to feel it, or it would hurt much less.

The birds you have are very small birds and they can't bite very hard. I personally wouldn't be too afraid of biting because I've dealt with some small bird bites in the past (parrotlet, lovebird, budgie) and to me, their bites feel like small pinches.

You have to will yourself to not move your hand rapidly if it seems like the bird is about to bite you because this can damage your relationship with the bird. Sometimes your bird may not bite you if it looks like it might. Sometimes parrots feel fingers/hands with their beak to check things out. Sometimes they try to grab onto your finger or hand to brace themselves before they step onto it, but with no intention of causing harm (these aren't painful).

If it seems like your parrot is about to bite you, draw your finger back a little bit. You only need to draw your finger away enough so that your parrot can't reach it. Will yourself to only draw your finger back a little bit just out of the bird's biting reach, but keep it close by. You don't need to draw it back rapidly and a longer distance because they're not going to chase it, they'll be too scared of your sudden movement and fly away from you.

ok, ill try and do that...today was all touch training and stick step up, when i try to let her step up onto my finger she moves back a little bit, after that i have to chase her and then she will step up onto my finger, its like i have go after her, same deal every time i try, i say "step up" (in spanish) and when i move my hand so she can step up she moves back and walk away, i try to do as your video shows, by palcing the target stick and my hand a little bit lower so she can step up onto my hand and touch the target but same answer....i feel im not making any progress, i feel like im not bonding with her

Sorry, but I feel a little offended that you are giving up.... I kind of feel bad for the bird because it's completely at your mercy and fully dependent on you. Did you use protective gloves like I suggested to you? Honestly, I didn't think a small bird like that would be able to give a serious bite.

To yourself, you may have tried to tame the bird. To the bird, you didn't do anything to earn it's trust. I mean, from what you told me, you pulled your hand back so quickly that you scared it and it flew away from you, and if that happened many times, I can see why it would be terrified of your hands.

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just thoroughly disappointed. I really hoped my advice would help you and I think it would have but it doesn't seem like you are interested in keeping the bird anymore.

You're expecting results overnight, it doesn't work that way. I like to say that for ever unit of mistrust, a bird needs AT LEAST that much more good time to make up for it. So if a parrot is 3 months old, then I think you could bond with it in 3 months. If it is 3 years old then it may well take 3 years to undo all the damage and distrust. Giving up is not the answer. Someone is going to have to take care of that bird. How will giving up and giving it to someone else solve the problem?
